James M. Ketchum Sept. 15, 1955 ~ Jan. 29, 2013

While visiting his mother and father in Burnet, he sustained a fall on Jan. 23 and injured his head, which resulted in immediate brain surgery. While the surgery was successful in removing a clot, unfortunately, there was too much damage for him to overcome.
Ketchum was born on Sept. 15, 1955 to James and Jeannine Starks Ketchum in San Antonio. The family moved to Schertz-Cibolo, Texas where he grew up. He attended Samuel Clemens High School and graduated in 1973. He continued his education at Texas A&M University in College Station and graduated with a degree in Zoology in 1977. Later he attended ACC in Austin, Texas where he became an amazing surgical technician. He began his medical career at Seton Northwest in Austin. He then seized an opportunity to gain more knowledge at the prestigious Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. He moved back to be closer to his parents and has been with Georgetown Hospital, which is currently St. David’s Georgetown, for the last 14 years. He has assisted his "Docs” in numerous surgeries and touched many lives. He truly excelled at his profession because it made him so happy.
He loved his family immensely and sought every opportunity to be with them. He loved to travel with his parents, sister and brother-in-law, niece, and various friends of the family to their chosen destination of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
It became a tradition everyone relished. He was also an enthusiastic pyrotechnician. His sister Kay and brother-inlaw Gayland actively participated in setting up and firing commercial firework displays. Michael cherished his friends and co-workers and treated everyone with love and respect. He was a joy to be around and will be missed for years to come.
Survivors include parents Jeannine and James Ketchum of Burnet; sister Elizabeth Kay and husband Gayland K. Miller of Burnet; niece Meagan G. Miller of Austin; along with many loving cousins who all recall fun times spent with him through the years.
Visitation was held from 5-7 p,m. on Feb. 1. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. and officiated by Pastor Grady Roe of Highland Lakes United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Bluffton Cemetery in Llano.
