Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at First Baptist Church in Big Spring. Burial was held Wednesday morning on his beloved ranch at Shamrock, with a 2 p.m. memorial service at First Baptist Church in Shamrock.
Wayne was born July 1, 1938 in Shamrock to Woodrow Wilson Henry and Cecil Charity Hendrick. He grew up on the family place east of Shamrock and graduated from Shamrock High School in 1956. He left for college hoping never to return to the agricultural lifestyle, but developed a deep love for the ranch later in life. He loved nothing better than improving his herd of Red Angus and seeing how his cattle would do in the show ring. Several years ago, he got into the goat business and became known throughout the southwest for selling award-winning Boar show goats.
He married Londa Coker Sept. 5, 1959 while both were students at Texas Tech University and was a member of the ATO fraternity. Together they raised a family in Big Spring, where he worked in the oil business. Later in life he owned an insurance agency, numerous steakhouses throughout the state and was a stockbroker. Wherever he lived, he took an active role in the church and community. Whether it was serving as president of the Kingsland Chamber of Commerce, emceeing numerous events, or simply visiting with one of his customers, he had a way of making everyone feel special. Never one to shy away from the spotlight, he had a knack for telling stories which made everyone laugh. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, stain glass and cooking. It was his love of cooking that led to his latest project of writing a cookbook. What he enjoyed most, though, was being surrounded by his family and looked forward to spending time with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents Teet and Woodrow.
He is survived by his wife Londa Coker Henry and their children Shawna (Larry) Ashlock of Fort Worth, Greg (Lori) Henry of Arlington and Kurt (Amy) Henry of Rainbow. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lauren (Ben) Barksdale, Aaron (Diana) Ashlock, Heston Henry, Holland Henry, Kord Henry, Rawlins Henry, and two great-grandchildren Evlyn Grace Barksdale and Hudson Barksdale. Also surviving are his brother-in-law Paul (Laura) Petterson, niece Dane (Phillip) Shoffner, nephews Cort (Marci) Petterson and Bruin (Jennifer) Petterson, and families, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
