LCRA to ask for emergency order to extend to end of rice-growing season

The Lower Colorado River Authority’s board of directors Wednesday unanimously approved a recommendation from the authority’s staff to ask the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to okay an emergency drought relief order that will extend to the end of the rice growing season in the river’s lower basin later this year.

Lifeguard revives boy at Burnet pool

A five-year-old Burnet boy was believed to be in good condition after being revived by a Galloway-Hammond recreation center lifeguard who pulled him from one of the facility’s swimming pools Monday after he had apparently been under water for approximately two minutes.

Fiddling for a good cause

A retired Methodist minister is doing his part one fiddle stroke at a time. Rev. Wayne Hawley of Burnet has pledged to raise money for the St. Matthews African Methodist Episcopal Church through a fiddle marathon on Saturday, June 22, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Hawley plans to play 500 songs to raise funding for a church that he regularly attends.

 Burnet Consolidated Independent School District trustees took another significant step toward returning teachers and staff pay to a more competitive level Monday when they approved a two percent pay increase for the 2013-14 school year.

Bertram Meals on Wheels to continue

The Williamson-Burnet County Opportunities has received enough funds in charitable donations since last week to extend Meals on Wheels service to 13 residents in the Bertram area through Sept. 30.

Early morning showers bring almost three inches to Buchanan Dam
