The Burnet Bulldogs came up just shy of the Rockdale Tigers Friday night.
Despite Burnetís gritty effort the much larger Tiger squad squeaked out a 24-17 victory. The Dawgs took an early 3-0 lead on a 34-yard Austin Huff field goal. Rockdale answered with a 40-yard field goal just three plays into the second quarter which knotted the game at three all.
The Bulldogs opened their 2012 season on Friday night by hosting the Fredericksburg Battliní Billies. Burnet jumped out to a big 20-0 lead with three first half touchdowns. The Dawgs first score came on the opening drive of the game. On a first and goal from the 1-yard line Burnet junior QB Derek Kiser dove into the end zone. Austin Huff booted the PAT and with 8:44 remaining in the first Burnet was up 7-0 and thatís how the first quarter ended.
