Both the varsity and JV girl’s softball teams have seen some bright spots during their 2013 season. Burnet’s JV team has earned some wins, while the varsity team is struggling through some growing pains.
To put it simply, the varsity Lady Dawgs are young. Most of the starters are freshman and sophomores with the exception of a few juniors, but they are continuing to work hard and are getting better each week.
Burnet faced the two top teams in District 8-3A last week with a road game at Gatesville on Tuesday and a home game against Liberty Hill on Friday.
The varsity girls fell to a very talented Lady Hornet squad, 16-0. Jill Rosow, Katie Kirkland and Drew Salinas shared the pitching duties. After two inning Gatesville led 11-0 with Burnet struggling to put any runners on base.
In the top of the third Kayla Glover drew a walk, followed by singles from Ashley Hallmark and Rosow but the Lady Dawgs were unable to manage a score.
Gatesville added five in the third to take a 16-0 lead going into the fourth.
Salinas pitched the fourth for Burnet allowing no walks and no runners on base. At the bat Vanessa Escamilla, Ashleigh Glover, and Grayson Edwards each picked-up singles but Burnet failed to score leaving the final 16-0.
