Jewell ‘Judy’ Aniol Aug. 23, 1923 ~ May 2, 2012Jewell ‘Judy’ Aniol, 86, of Burnet died May 2, 2013. She was born in Leander on Aug. 23, 1926 to Tom and Millie (Davis) Chandler.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alphonce ‘Al’ Aniol I, son Alphonce ‘Sonny’ Aniol II, granddaughter Dawn Cielencki, brothers Archie and Loyce Chandler, and sisters Effie Whitley, Essie Howard, Vergie Brooks, Bernice Stiles Brown and Evalena Chandler. She is survived by her daughter Linda Sue and her husband Edward Cielencki, granddaughter Carol Ann Mills and family, sister Ethel Ames and sister-in-Law Dorothy Chandler, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. |
David Michael Thorp June 24, 1955 ~ April 29, 2013David Michael Thorp, 57, died Monday, April 29, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at the Christopher House in Austin.He is survived by his wife Arabella, parents James W. and Priscilla Thorp and siblings Jake, Gerald and Missie Thorp. Also surviving are his children, Danielle, Wendy, Jon and Stephen Thorp, grandchildren Macie, Emma and Xae. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive. He was born June 24, 1955 in Pasadena, Thorp lived most of his life in the Houston area. His biggest pleasure was playing his guitar and writing music, and his greatest joy was his family. He attended Galena Park High School where he is remembered for playing his guitar. A fellow classmate summed up his talent as teaching the beauty in the simplicity of just playing and singing "one guitar - one voice”. |
Douglas Wayne Ray Sr June 30. 1945 ~ April 30, 2013Douglas Wayne Ray Sr. , 67,was born June 30, 1945, in Burnet to Ellis Ray and Jessie Simpson Ray. He lost his battle with cancer April 30, 2013, at his home in Bertram with his family at his side. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers and two sisters.He is survived by his wife of more than 46 years Judy Amidon Ray, daughter Sandra Thornhill and her children Brandon and Katelyn of Bertram, son Douglas Wayne Ray Jr. of New Braunfels, son Joe Ray and wife Diedre and their children Evan and Andie of Burnet. |
Melody Curry Jan. 26, 1963 ~ April 26, 2013Melody Curry, 50, of Austin, passed away April 26, 2013 at Southwood Care Center. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday May 1st at The Chapel at the Assumption Cemetery in Austin, with Randy Curry officiating, under the direction of Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, Abilene.Melody Ann Herridge Curry was born Jan. 26, 1963 in Houston and adopted at an early age by William C. (Johnny) and Wynelle Herridge. The family lived in Houston until Melody was 9 and then moved to Marble Falls, where they raised horses and cows on a small plot of land. She graduated from high school in Marble Falls in 1981. |
Annie Randle Ward Oct. 28 1919 ~ April 26, 2013Annie Randle Ward, 93 died Friday, April 26, 2013 in Austin. She was born Oct. 28, 1919, to William and Mary Fountain. Annie earned a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State Women’s College and a master’s degree from Louisiana State University. She taught school for a few years prior to raising her children. |
Billy Joe “Bill” Gibson Jan. 15, 1931 ~ April 26, 2013Billy Joe "Bill” Gibson, 82, died at his home in Marble Falls on April 26, 2013. He was born Jan. 15, 1931, at his family’s home on the Coca Cola Ranch, known today as Horseshoe Bay. He was preceded in death by his parents and by five sisters and three brothers: Bernice Bruns, Marie Crownover, Esterrea Crownover, Annie Moore, Modena Gibson, B.M. (Hoot) Gibson, I.V. Gibson and Ray Gibson.Bill served in the Navy on Nov. 30, 1948, and was honorably discharged Nov. 21, 1952. He met the love of his life, Marie Kolb on a blind date, one month prior to leaving the Navy. It was leap year so Marie asked him to marry her. He smiled and raised her question with "how about we go to Texas”. So they did and were together for 60 years. |
Dianne Mahan July 14, 1944 ~ April 24, 2013Dianne Mahan, 68, of Kingsland died Wednesday, April 24, 2013. She was born on July 14, 1944 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Geneva (McDowell) Harris and Leslie Harris. Dianne was married to Milton (Jimmy) Mahan II on September 4, 2001 in Tomball, Texas. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards and loved her five dogs.Survivors include her husband Milton (Jimmy) Mahan II of Kingsland; daughters Brenda Reichert and husband Chris of Conroe, and Charmagne Acevedo of Porter; son Teddy Doyle Whitaker of Tomball; sisters Judy Bruetting of Baton Rouge, La., Polly Arnold, Donna Havis, Virginia Butler and Bonnie Palmer all of Georgia; brothers Carl Plitt and Alvin Plitt of Denham Springs, La.; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Leslie (Tamper) Harris, mother Geneva McDowell Plitt and son-in-law Hector Acevedo. |
Betty Slaughter May 18, 1927 ~ April 25, 2013Betty Slaughter, 85, died April 25, 2013 at home in Spicewood with her family beside her. She was born in Wausau, Wis., on May 18, 1927, to Bill and Lila (Geier) Tatroe. Her parents and their siblings were in vaudeville and traveled until she was 4. She has lived in Coffeyville, Kansas and Harlingen where she met and married Charles Slaughter. She also lived in Austin and Ozona before settling in Spicewood.She graduated from Harlingen High School in 1945 and attended Trinity University in San Antonio. She was a Red Cross volunteer in the 1950s and 1960s and worked the Mississippi floods. Betty served as the Red Cross Disaster Chairman for Cameron County, taught Red Cross first aid and was a water safety instructor for many years in Harlingen. |
Eloy Ramirez May 5, 1962 ~ April 23, 2013Eloy Ramirez, 50, of Houston and formally of Marble Falls died April 23, 2013 in Houston, Texas. He was born to Louis and Clarita Rachael (Rocha) Ramirez on May5, 1962 in Robstown, Texas.Ramirez enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a hard worker. He spent several years in the concrete business as a laborer in the Texas Hill Country. He was employed in the landscape business at the time of his death. Eloy is survived by his wife Laurie of Houston, daughter Nancy Ramirez of Houston and a son Eloy Jr. also of Houston. Also surviving are grandsons Isaac, Isaiah, Izekiel and Ilias De La Cruz and sisters Linda and her husband Donald Heath of Priddy, Sophie Ramirez of Priddy, Olicia Ojeda of Priddy, Rachael Ojeda of Priddy, Carol and her husband Ramon Anaya of Houston, and Mary Alice and her husband Thomas Lopez of Lockhart. Other survivors are his brothers Richard and his wife Olga Ramirez of Comanche, and Pablo and his wife Melissa Ojeda of Granite Shoals. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. |
Douglas G. Van der Pool July 25, 1918 ~ April 30, 2013Douglas G. Van der Pool, 94, of Horseshoe Bay died April 30, 2013. He was born to Orville and Emily [Fennimore] Van der Pool on July 25, 1918 in Bronxville, N.Y.Douglas served his country during three wars in the United States Air Force. He and Joy Laune were married in 2003 in Marble Falls, Texas. He was a member of the Church at Horseshoe Bay, V.F.W., Horseshoe Bay Club, Military Officers Club. In his spare time he enjoyed golf, poker and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Joy Van der Pool of Horseshoe Bay, son Douglas K. and his wife Linda Van der Pool of Northumberland, Penn., grandchildren Megan E. Van der Pool of Northumberland, Penn., Gregory J. and his wife Heidi Van der Pool of Ft. Stewart, Ga., sister Virginia Newell of Cape Coral, Fla. |
