While competing with students from all over the greater Austin area at the TMEA District band auditions, 16 of the Burnet Middle School’s Honors Band made it through to the district band while seven made it into the regional band.

“This has been the most successful year for the band at District try-outs,” said band director Darcy Williams. It was very crowded, all of the students were frantically trying to get a last bit of practicing in. Across the building there was this loud hum of different songs on different instruments.

“This is the highest honor an individual middle school band student can achieve,” Williams said.

Burnet sent 30 students to the auditions held in Cedar Park on Nov. 7 and 14. There were 1,200 students auditioning for a mere 252 spots in the district and regional bands.

“I didn’t really get nervous until I got to the ready chair," said student Seth Timmons. "When I played you could tell I was nervous. When I found out I made the top band I did not know what to think I was so happy.”
