The Texas Water Development Board approved a $1,070,000 federal grant last week for Burnet to replace some of the city’s water lines.

"We are grateful to the funds," said Christa Bromley, the city’s economic development director. "We’re very pleased to have received the grant because it was highly competitive."

The TWDB had been given a pot of money by the federal government as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act - ARRA, or the "stimulus package" as it is more commonly known.

The stimulus package has led to a grant writing frenzy across America as local governments have scrambled to get a piece of the pie. Bromley said usually 15-20 percent of her time is spent working on grants. However that portion has been nearer 50 percent the last few months.
