The City of Cottonwood Shores laid a temporary pipeline to Horseshoe Bay last week, connecting the two water utilities in preparation of a shutdown and overhaul of the city’s water plant.

A crew from the Water Department and Public Works broke ground Wednesday and joined the heavy duty, 4-inch pipeline to the existing 3-inch line, said George Perry, supervisor.

The pipeline was laid above ground and supported by 65 concrete bags for logistical reasons.

“Due to the fact we’re not digging a ditch and it’s temporary, we decided to use a (sturdier) 4-inch line,” Perry said.

The line runs north about 520 feet from the corner of Knights Row and Princess Path in Cottonwood Shores to a hydrant on Horseshoe Bay property.

It was sterilized with chlorine to kill bacteria, and then flushed. Samples of the water running from the hydrant were tested by Public Works this weekend and sent to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
