Officers responded to the scene of a fatal stabbing at a Briggs residence Sunday night and arrested a man who claimed he was attacked.
Dwayne Edward Nash, 49, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the death of Coy Dustin Dowdle, 39, of Lampasas. Dowdle was stabbed in the chest with a bone-handled knife at about 9 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of FM 2657, according to a Burnet County Sheriff’s Office report.
The victim was determined deceased by emergency personnel who responded to the residence after receiving a 911 call.
Officials are awaiting the victim’s autopsy results ordered through the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office as the investigation continues.
According to a statement released Monday by the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office, Nash “told investigators that Dowdle had entered the residence and attacked him and that during the ensuing fight, Nash stabbed Dowdle in the chest.”
Nash is currently in custody at Burnet County Jail awaiting his arraignment. Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
