Burnet County commissioners got tough on violators of "NO THRU TRAFFIC" signs on county roads Tuesday, paving the way for law enforcement officers to write tickets for violators.

Last week commissioners discussed the nuisance of large trucks using the roads as short cuts to cut costs. However, it was not clear whether law enforcement officers had the authority to issue tickets.

The court heard testimony detailing how in order to be able to write tickets, " NO THRU" signs had to be OK'd at a public hearing. Commissioners Court is a public hearing and so the approval of the signs Tuesday morning effectively authorizes ticket writing from now on.

‘I believe that what we did today we’ve already done, we just don’t remember,” said Commissioner Bill Neve. “I’ve always been tough about the signs.”
