A bountiful crop of volunteers have got staff members at the Burnet County Sheriff’s department excited about this year’s “Santa’s Helpers” program, which provides Christmas presents for underprivileged children in the county.

“We’ve been having meetings regularly and we’re getting so much more help this year,” said co-organizer Vickie Seiley. “People have really stepped up.”

Last year, the program was able to help around 500 children. With the extra help, organizers hope they will be able to help, “as many as needs it” this year. Members of the public can help by making a financial contribution, which will help the program purchase toys.

But there are many other ways to donate as well.

“We accept toys, monetary donations, wrapping paper…all that stuff” said co-organizer Donna Fritsch.

Beginning this week, Santa’s helpers have numerous locations around town where people can donate materials or money including the Family Dollar, HEB, Dollar General, both Burnet and Marbles Falls’ Chambers of Commerce and the Bertram PEC building.

People can also donate at local volunteer fire departments. If so, be sure to turn out on Nov. 21 (if you live in the north end of the county) and Nov. 28 (if you live in the south end) as a parade of motorcycles will be making their way between fire departments, rain or shine, collecting donations.

Families who qualify for assistance will be able to apply starting on  Nov. 30 at the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office. Applicants will need to provide a report card or some type of documentation showing that their child attends a school and resides in Burnet County.

For information contact Vickie Seiley 512.756.8080 or Donna Fritsch 830.613.2097.

Santa's Helpers succeeded the department's previous program, called Brown Santa, and is now in its second year.
