When the Burnet County 4-H and FFA Livestock Show began in 1967, about 100 animals sold for a grand total of $2,100. Last weekend's show brought 214 exhibitors a total of $252,000.

"I'd say we're doing a little better this year," said stock show auctioneer Trey Poage as he called out the names of some buyers.

Burnet High School agriculture teacher Joe Vann said buyers know how important it is for all participants to receive money for their hard work. He also said buyers pay the high school seniors particularly well. Stock show board of directors chairman Steve Ebeling said despite the rain and cold weather last weekend, the buyer turnout was tremendous.

"Everything was great, and there was a lot of support for the kids," he said.

Ebeling added the Burnet County show allows for each competitor to sell one animal. He said most shows in Texas only sell a percentage of the animals or the top winners. So while many participants showed several animals, they could sell only one at the auction. Below is a list of the top winners at this year's Burnet County stock show.
