The Burnet City Council has until later this month to submit the first phase of a master plan to the Texas Department of Transportation for needed upgrades to the municipal airport.
The council studied copies of the proposed plan at a workshop Tuesday.
Federal money, administered by TxDOT, is available for the millions of dollars needed to move and restore the airport’s taxiway, resurface the runway, expand the terminal, and relocate the fuel farm.
The city must also reroute Houston Clinton Drive because it cuts across the safety zone at the north end of the runway.
The total cost of the project for Phase One of the project is $1.3 million, including land acquisition on east side of the airport to allow the taxiway to be moved away from the runway.
