Texas Department of Transportation is currently looking into the possibility of adding slow vehicle turnout lanes on RR 1431 between Lago Vista and the Burnet County line, but motorist feedback may not have much sway in whether the project takes place.

Spokesperson Kelli Reyna said that TxDOT is in the early stages of investigating the possibility of placing slow vehicle turnouts on that portion of RR 1431.

Currently there are two short passing lane areas on that stretch of highway east of FM 1174 in Burnet County (assuming no vehicles are in oncoming lane). One in front of the Sportsman’s Cafe, just east of FM 1174 and one by Cow Creek in Travis County. Otherwise, a slow moving vehicle can back up traffic for an extended period of time.
