Airport improvements enhance site

The police department provided updates on Burnet CISD’s decision to establish its own police department, marking the final year that the Burnet Police Department will provide School Resource Officers at BCISD campuses.

Administrator Updates Lee also reviewed recent crime and patrol activity, noting an impressive average response time of 2 minutes and 35 seconds for Priority 1 calls – 55 seconds faster than state and national averages.

City Engineer Eric Belaj then provided an update on the city’s water wells, discussing Burnet’s reliance on both surface and groundwater sources, testing results for the Cheatham Wells, and plans for the Valley Street Well.

This key project, estimated at $2–$3 million, will significantly enhance water capacity with drawdown tests indicating Valley Street is capable of producing 1,000 gallons per minute.

The Burnet City Council also held several public hearings related to zoning and development. Of note, the final plats for Phases 2 and 3 of The Ranch at Delaware Creek subdivision, were approved along with infrastructure improvements and maintenance bonds.

In terms of action items, the council approved the purchase of seven Nevco LED baseball/ softball scoreboards for the YMCA sports fields, replacing outdated units.

A grant application was authorized for the Downtown Revitalization Program, which aims to enhance infrastructure and economic activity in the historic district. The council also approved tree mitigation fee-in-lieu payment for the Hilltop Oaks Subdivision.

Additionally, a water conservation grant application was authorized to be submitted to the Lower Colorado River Authority to upgrade the city’s water metering infrastructure. Finally, the council approved a $197,000 contract with DBSA for engineering services to begin the process to rehabilitate the Valley Street Water Well, ensuring improved water reliability for the community.

First Responder Honors Two members of the Burnet Fire Department were honored at the Hill Country 100 Club Banquet for their outstanding service. Paramedic/Firefighter Chris Moore was named Paramedic/Firefighter of the Year for his leadership and dedication as a Field Training Officer. Paramedic/Firefighter Nolan Korte received a Meritorious Award for his life-saving actions during a critical incident.

Their commitment to excellence reflects the high standards of our public safety teams. Congratulations to Chris and Nolan on these well-deserved honors.

Coloring Contest

The meeting included recognition of Burnet CISD 2rd- and 3rd-grade winners of the Burnet Municipal Court’s traffic safety coloring contest, which promoted crosswalk awareness.

Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) and the Burnet County Office of Emergency Management announced the upcoming Emergency Preparedness and Community Resource Fair, scheduled for Saturday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Marble Falls High School. The event will provide public education and disaster readiness resources. The Burnet City Council also issued a proclamation honoring Donald Fawcett, designating March 29, 2025, as Donald Fawcett Day of Service in recognition of his lifelong contributions to Burnet.

The next meeting of city council is scheduled for March 25, at 6:30 p.m.
