Dawgs earn series win over Taylor

The Bulldog baseball team improved their district standing with a series win over Taylor last week. Due to poor weather conditions both games were played in Burnet on the turf field.

The Bulldog baseball team improved their district standing with a series win over Taylor last week. Due to poor weather conditions both games were played in Burnet on the turf field.

The Dawgs got on the board first in the bottom of the second on Tuesday, but Taylor responded in the top of the fourth with three runs to take a 3-1 lead.

The Dawgs posted a single run in the bottom of the third to make it 3-2.

Burnet’s boys went on to add nine runs in their final two at bats holding Taylor to just one additional score which brought the final to rest at 11-4 Burnet.

The Dawgs added up 10 hits and played error free ball in the field.

Doubles were swatted by Khris Kassner, Cason O’Hair, Charles Edwards, and Alex Cantrill.

Singles were added by Cade Park and Cooper Alexander with two each, as well as Trey Morrow, Matthew Valdez, Macke Calhoun, Tate Lambright, and Kassner who each hit one.

Valdez pitched just over three innings allowing four hits, three runs, two of which were earned, with no walks and one strikeout.

Mason Watson pitched just over three innings as well allowing six hits and one run, with one walk and six strikeouts.

On Friday Taylor returned to Burnet to close out the series. In the top of the first Cade Park drew a walk and was soon plated by a Valdez RBI, 1-0 Bulldogs. Taylor knotted the game in the bottom of the second, 1-1, but that didn’t last long.

In the top of the third Park hit a double to get on, Morrow drew a walk, and a Lambright two RBI single scored both, 3-1. Alexander followed with a RBI single that plated Valdez who had also reached on a walk, 4-1.

Burnet increased that lead to 5-1 in the top of the fourth. Kassner reached on a single and following two outs Morrow hit a single line drive to right scoring Kassner.

In the top of the sixth Taylor linked together three singles to score a run, 5-2 and that’s how the game ended.

Park hit a double and a single in the game and scored two runs. Singles were added by Morrow, Lambright, Alexander, aand Kassner.

Cooper Faris spent six innings on the bump allowing seven hits and two runs with one walk and three strikeouts. Rhett Murray pitched the final inning allowing no hits, no runs, and no walks, with one strikeout.

The Dawgs began their series versus Jarrell on Tuesday at Jarrell and will be home this Friday versus the Cougars. Their final district series will be played on Tuesday and Friday, April 22 and April 25 versus Gateway.
