Bluebonnets have been sparse in many areas this spring. Some friends have reported that their bluebonnets have been greatly stunted. A couple of friends had none at all. The most likely explanation probably is the lack of rain this past fall and winter.
Butterflies?
Butterflies appear to be disappearing. Recently in the Killeen Daily Herald Newspaper an article appeared about the amount of butterflies that are disappearing. The article mentioned that since 2000 the number had dropped by 22%. It seems that insecticides, climate change and habitat loss are to blame, according to the report.
Also, it was felt that the driest and warmest areas of the country have the biggest losses. That would be in the southwest – Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma.
