A community member who stewarded books and resources that nourish the soul is bidding farewell.

Assistant librarian Jessica Murray of the Oakalla Library paid tribute to librarian Tricia Pratt by sharing, “We say goodbye to an incredible librarian who has made a lasting impact on our community.”

Pratt began her career at the library as a volunteer about fifteen years ago.

“Ms. Pratt, has been more than a keeper of books. She has been a guide and a friend to every reader and community member,” Murray continued. “From recommending the perfect novel to fostering a love for learning, Tricia has filled our library with warmth, wisdom, and a passion for knowledge.”

The outgoing librarian has impacted the lives of hundreds of people – young and old.

“The stories we’ve discovered, the adventures we’ve shared, and the connections we’ve built wouldn’t have been the same without her,” Murray added. “While we’ll miss her dearly, we know the next chapter will be just as inspiring.

“Thank you for your dedication, kindness, and boundless enthusiasm. Wishing you the very best on your next adventure.”

Summer Reading Program

The Oakalla Library announces its summer reading program with the theme, “Color Our World.” The library kicked off this program with a delicious, fun activity on Tuesday, June 3 with ice cream sundaes.

The library includes a challenge in this reading program.

Those adults, teens and youths who check out books will be issued one ticket each time a book is checked out.

The ticket will be entered into a drawing, and a prize for the most books checked out will be awarded to someone in each group.

More Activities

The following programs will continue at the library.

On Tuesdays, Story Time and Crafts for the younger group of children will meet at 4 p.m. and Teen Art Classes will be held at 6:30 p.m.

On Fridays, Toddler time is at 10:00 a.m. and Adult Craft time is 10:30 a.m.

The Library is located at 28961 RM 963 in Oakalla.

New Traffic Light

A new traffic light has been installed at the intersection of FM 138 and Hwy183. Left turns are now much easier, and safer, to negotiate at 138 as well as at FM 243.

Yoga Classes

Anyone wishing to participate in a Yoga Class can do so at the Oakalla Community Center. The time is 8:00 a.m. on Fridays. The classes are sponsored by the Oakalla Library. To join, bring a mat, a water bottle and a small donation for the instructor.
