First responders working around the clock for recovery operations

Burnet County officials have issued an emergency disaster declaration following a weekend deluge of stormwater which has destroyed and closed roadways, damaged property and strained public infrastructure and public safety services.

Burnet County Judge Bryan Wilson signed the declaration order on July 5 just before 2 p.m. The flood event unfolded on Independence Day around 5 p.m. as the Llano River sparked the first wave of flooding. As much as 20 inches of rain in a 48 hour period sparked severe flooding once the Llano River crested, racing through lakes LBJ, Marble Falls and then downstream. High water prompted flood operations. The declaration timelines was extended on July 8. (Find the story on Page 1).

“Whereas, the County of Burnet beginning on the 4th day of July, 2025, has suffered widespread or severe image, injury or loss of life or property resulting from excessive multiple rounds of rainfall,” according to the declaration document. “Whereas, the Judge of the County of Burnet has determined that extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and to protect or rehabilitate property and infrastructure.”
