Back at it

They say time flies when you are having fun and I’d have to say that has been the theme of our summer. We decided that travel and family would be a big part of it this year and we checked off those boxes.

They say time flies when you are having fun and I’d have to say that has been the theme of our summer. We decided that travel and family would be a big part of it this year and we checked off those boxes.

We made trips to New Mexico, Louisiana and Oklahoma, North, East, West and South Texas, the coast twice, and even swam the Rio Grande and hiked around in Mexico near Sanderson.

We squeezed every second we could out of June and July, but the days soon rolled to August which means it’s time to get back at it.

This year marks 26 years that we have been covering the Dawgs. That is certainly hard to believe when I think about it. Sometimes the days are long, but the years have flown by.

On Monday two-a-days started for many Burnet athletes and in just one week the first day of school bells will ring.

During our weeks off a few things happened in the sports world so I wanted to talk about them briefly in my first editorial back.

Congratulations to Coach Crystal Shipley and Coach Doug Messer on their recent promotions.

Shipley was named the new Girls Athletic Coordinator and Messer was promoted to Head Girls Basketball Coach. Both will no doubt do a fantastic job in their new roles.

Recent Burnet graduate and standout athlete, Grant Jones was voted in as the male Chicken Express Community Hero of the Year award winner.

This award is bestowed upon a hard working and dedicated individual who goes above and beyond in their community. Jones certainly fits that description. Congratulations young man and best of luck with college football. Burnet is very proud of you!

Burnet senior, Camryn Courtney and junior, Journey Denton captured some print space in the Austin Sports Journal recently for their volleyball contributions.

Courtney was listed in the top 10 setters and Denton was listed as a top 10 libero. It’s shaping up to be another fantastic volleyball season for Coach Shipley and her girls. They will participate in their first scrimmage this weekend at Glen Rose and will be on the road for most of August.

The girls first home game of the season is slated for Aug. 27 when Florence and Legacy Ranch will come to town. Those game will begin at 5:00 p.m.

The football moms will take center stage on Aug. 8 for a Mom’s Clinic. This new tradition has become a favorite for the athletes and the moms.

The Bulldog football team will see their first action versus an opponent on Aug. 16 at Canyon Lake.

It’s a busy time around Bulldog Country. We will do our best to cover all their accomplishments during the new school year. It’s good to be back.

That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading the Burnet Bulletin.
