The City of Burnet is looking into possible disaster recovery programs that could help residents impacted by recent flooding, including voluntary property buyouts through the USDA-NRCS Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Program.

Anyone interested in participating in the program should submit their interest by Friday, Sept. 19.

“If your home was damaged by the flood and you might be interested in selling your property through a voluntary buyout, please email us at developmentservices@ cityofburnet. com with your name, address, and contact information,” according to a statement by the city.

“This program is completely voluntary - there is no eminent domain and it’s designed to reduce future flood risk and restore natural floodplains.

“Properties that qualify would be purchased at fair market value, and land would be kept as open space to help protect against future flooding,” the statement continued.

With the work on Wood Street and Northington Street now substantially complete, only a few minor tasks remain— such as site clean-up, replacing a few irrigation heads, and finishing the mailbox installations. Contributed/City of Burnet

“Let us know if you’re interested so we can connect with you about possible next steps.”

Autism Initiative
