A Burnet businessman, former UT stand out football player and Burnet graduate, is recovering from injuries after suffering burns in a ranch machinery accident.
The incident was reported the afternoon of Jan. 6 on property just outside Burnet.
His family confirmed that Jordan Shipley, 40, was listed in “critical but stable” condition at an Austin area hospital.
According to a family statement Jan. 6 on X: "The machine he was operating on his ranch caught fire, and although he managed to get out, it was not before sustaining severe burns on his body.
“He was able to get to one of his workers on the ranch who drove him to a local hospital."
Shipley played for three teams over three NFL seasons between 2010-12. Shipley was the Bengals 3rd round pick in the 2010 NFL draft. He retired after a game-related injury in 2012.
Following retirement from his NFL career, Shipley worked as a real estate broker. He and his wife, Sunny, recently opened Airy Mount. They have two young sons.
The coffee shop and mercantile store, 1819 E. Polk (Texas 29) in Burnet, also offers tea, ice cream and souvenirs within historic buildings, including the restored Craddock House, on the property.
The Burnet Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting grand opening in October 2025.
The two-way all-state Burnet High School athlete led the team in two back-to-back 3A state championship in 2002 and 2003.
After that, he caught the eye of recruiters as a standout player at the University of Texas at Austin. He played in a national title game in 2010.
