Doors opened for business as usual 8 a.m. Jan. 13 after an air-scare forced a work stoppage the previous day in Burnet at the County Annex, 1701 East Polk Road.
Most likely, whirling winds disrupted normal air flow equipment functions from one point out of the building, County Judge Bryan Wilson told the Bulletin.
“One of the (air flow) baffles on the roof got twisted,” he recalled. “It fell into the exhaust system and blocked an alarm panel. As soon as we realized what was going on, we got everybody out.”
Rather than take any chances, County Facilities Supervisor Richard Gumbert directed all personnel to leave the annex. As county workers entered the building, they re-inspected all the alarm panels and pumped air through corridors and other spaces to drive out any trace of dangerous gas, such as carbon monoxide.
No injuries occurred during the incident, Wilson said.
