Burnet is a home-rule city, which means we have more local control under Texas law than a general-law municipality.

Our city has adopted a city charter, which works much like a local constitution and helps guide how the city operates. Its structure allows Burnet to make many decisions locally, such as passing ordinances, managing growth and responding to community needs, while still following federal and state law.
