Future fun ranges from candle-making to cook-offs

The librarians at the Oakalla Public Library ask if you have ever wanted to make your own candle. If so, they are holding a workshop on Friday, Feb. 13.

This coming Saturday, the 14th, is Valentine’s Day.

It will be a day of colorful valentine cards exchanged by school children.

A day for sweethearts to send messages of love, and festivals involving music and dance will also occur.

As I often do when I am curious about a subject, I go to the internet.

There I found a considerable amount of material about Valentine’s Day.

One item that I found interesting was information about the first known valentine.

Amazingly, it still exists today as a poem written by Charles Duke of Orleans to his wife while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London in 1415.

He had been captured at the Battle of Agincourt.

Candle-making

The librarians at the Oakalla Public Library ask if you have ever wanted to make your own candle.

If so, they are holding a workshop on Friday, Feb. 13.

Everyone of all ages is invited to participate.

A $5 donation is suggested to cover supplies. The time is 11 a.m.

The Oakalla Library is located at 28981 FM 963, Oakalla.
