During the evening hours Wednesday (March 4), emergency crews responded to a structure fire amid a severe thunderstorm that brought heavy rain, lightning, hail, and extremely low visibility to the area.
The East Lake Buchanan Volunteer Fire Department, under the leadership of Chief Leslie Ray, responded to the call and was assisted through mutual aid by the Burnet Fire and EMS Departments, Marble Falls Fire Rescue, Hoover’s Valley VFD, Northeast Fire and Rescue, and other surrounding agencies.
Firefighters battled extremely challenging conditions including torrential rain, lightning, hail, and near-zero visibility while working to control the blaze. Despite their efforts, the primary residence was declared a total loss.
The severe storm also caused damage to neighboring properties. The roof of a nearby home was partially torn off during the storm, and a third structure sustained heat damage from the fire.
Despite the dangerous weather and the extent of the damage, all occupants and responding firefighters were reported safe, and no injuries occurred.
The fire chief expressed his appreciation for the coordinated response and the dedication shown by all departments involved. The efforts of the East Lake Buchanan Fire Department and its entire team, along with assisting agencies, helped prevent further damage to surrounding homes.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
