Thirty-six golfers, eight Master Naturalists, and a day of fun describes the Highland Lakes Master Naturalists (HLMN) first golf tournament.

On June 6 at Delaware Springs Golf Course in Burnet, nine teams of four golfers each competed in a 4 - person scramble, with prizes being awarded for the Longest Putt, Closest to the Pin, and Longest Drive.

Prizes for the lowest three team scores were also awarded, and a raffle was held alongside the tournament.

The raffle featured artwork from several members of the Highland Lakes chapter. There were also wine tastings, a fishing pole, and gift cards from area businesses.

A table manned by Master Naturalist volunteers kept golfers engaged throughout the tournament.

Swag bags, grabn- go lunches, and snacks throughout the competition kept the golfers happy. A momentary rain shower got some of the golfers drenched, but didn’t dampen anyone’s enthusiasm.

The first fund raiser of its kind for the chapter, the group raised over $4,000.

Sponsorships and donations from the local community helped make the event a success, and volunteers look forward to doing it again next year.

As Robin Miskimins, tournament chair, explained, “The Highland Lakes Master Naturalists are grateful for the support from our community-minded businesses. Because of this support, we can continue to provide educational programs, conservation initiatives, and community projects that enhance and protect the natural resources of the Highland Lakes region.”

The Highland Lakes Master Naturalist chapter is grateful for the following individuals and businesses that contributed to this event.
