Celebrity judges make ‘fair’ calls for entries

Young Genevieve Mc-Donald’s simple explanation of her peppermint ice cream recipe perfectly captured the spirit of the Burnet County Area Fair. “I crushed the peppermints to dust, it tasted really good, and then put it into the ice cream thing,” she said.

There were no fancy culinary terms, just enthusiasm, creativity and the pride that comes from sharing something you made yourself.

From carefully preserved vegetables to hand-stitched quilts, decorated cakes to fresh eggs gathered that morning, the Burnet County Area Fair once again showcased the talents and traditions that have long been woven into the fabric of local communities.
