From the Dawg House
This past month has been a blur. BHS football is already in week two of the season, BHS volleyball has played more than 20 games, tennis has had multiple matches, and cross country has logged hundreds of miles.
If those weren’t enough to keep up with there’s four BMS volleyball teams playing weekly. The BMS cross country team actually runs today, Wednesday, in Burnet. If you are wanting to cheer on our young BMS runners they’ll be running around the BHS campus starting at 4:00 p.m. today.
It’s a little odd to have Wednesday football going on in Burnet but BMS football will be scrimmaging Taylor starting at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon.
There is plenty to take in.
Now for my shout-outs.
I’m starting with Coach Crystal Shipley and the varsity Lady Dawg volleyball team. Llano brought a very talented group to Burnet last Friday, with the kind of hitters that drew oohs and ahhs during warm-ups.
Not only did Coach Crystal Shipley and her Lady Dawgs beat them, they swept them, 3-0.
Under the direction of Brent Kelley and Allison Tippie the underclass JV and freshman girls did the same to Llano to set the volleyball tone early. Way to go Lady Dawgs!
The JV football team also deserves some praise. These young men defeated a talented Lago Vista squad 21-20 at their house last Thursday to open their season 1-0.
The freshman and varsity football teams fell to the Vikings in their openers.
This week high school football will face another big challenge as Georgetown Eastview appears on the schedule. Thursday night the JV and freshman teams will welcome Eastview to town and on Friday the varsity Dawgs will travel to Eastview. The game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
Cross Country headed out to San Antonio before the sunrise on Saturday morning and competed in a huge San Antonio Patriot Invite. Burnet’s varsity teams ran in the Elite Division and senior Victor Aviles was the Dawgs top performer taking 11 place overall out of over 270 athletes.
You can read more about the Patriot Invite in this week’s cross country story.
The cross country teams will run in Cedar Park this Saturday.
Burnet team tennis has hosted two district meets and while showing good things in both they have yet to log a district win. This Thursday they will host Cameron Yoe at 4:00 p.m.
It will be another incredibly busy week of Bulldog and Lady Dawg activities. Be sure to put on your green and white and get out to support anywhere you can.
That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading the Burnet Bulletin.
