The Burnet fall team tennis squad faced an incredible challenge last week when Academy rolled into town. In their first week of play Academy won 18 matches over Lago Vista and they continued their dominance in Burnet on Thursday. Unfortunately, the Dawgs fell 19-0 in their second district outing.

“It was a really good experience to face such strong opposition,” said head tennis coach Ben Boorman. “There were a lot of coaching points on fundamentals to go over.”

Robyn Massey and Alex Burns continue to give it all on the court. They fight hard every match and are making weekly improvements. On the boys side Callen Smith and Luke Suchomel are working hard and gaining knowledge and skill weekly.

Jason Kennedy was added to the team and he competed well for his first match of the season.

“Our team never gave up and showed great tenacity against Academy,” said Boorman. “We are seeing great leadership from our top four.”

At the JV level, Isaac Vega-Palacios was a highlight claiming the Dawgs only win of the night. It was Vega-Palacios’ first singles match ever and he shows room for growth as well.

The team tennis groups will return to the court this Thursday for their third district match. They will be hosting Cameron Yoe. Matches are slated to start at 4:00 p.m.
