Footprints is a free eight-week peer support group for children between the ages of 6-15 years who are grieving the loss of a loved one.

The first session is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 3, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Hill Country Fellowship, 200 Houston Clinton Drive in Burnet. The eight, 1-hour group sessions are scheduled for Oct. 3 through Dec. 5, skipping Oct. 31 and Nov. 28 for Halloween and Thanksgiving, respectively.

Rusty Russey, Highland Lakes C.P.R. Ministries director, said, “It breaks my heart to see children and teens undone by the loss of a loved one. Footprints creates a nonthreatening environment where children can heal and regain hope for their future.”

The Footprints mission is to serve children dealing with grief in a faith-founded environment that is safe and accepting of all emotions and to help children identify and begin to deal with the emotions surrounding their loss. While Footprints is Christian-based, children of all faiths and those of no faith are welcome.

The eight-week program provides healthy coping tools to children experiencing grief from the loss of a loved one. All activities are led by trained, non-related adult volunteers, and designed to let children know they are not alone in their grief.
