Veterans Day holds special meaning, historic significance

This is a federal holiday with events occurring throughout the US.

In 1918, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month German leaders signed the armistice that ended World War 1.

Originally this day was called Armistice Day.

In 1954 the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor veterans of all wars. Veterans Days is celebrated annually on the 11th day of November on whichever day of the week it falls.

A National Veterans Day celebration is held each year on November 11th at the Arlington National Cemetery.

This involves laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns. This ceremony begins precisely at 11 a.m.
