Burnet High School graduate Class of 2024, PVT Logan Copsetta recently completed 22 weeks of Cavalry Scout training at Fort Moore (Benning), Georgia. As a member of 3rd Platoon, Bounty Hunter Troop, 2-15th Cavalry, Copsetta learned the ins and outs of being a scout.

“A Scout is a soldier specialized in forward reconnaissance, mounted or dismounted with the job of finding, observing, and reporting, any element, obstacle, or any other possible setback to provide reaction time, and maneuver space for the main body behind him,” Copsetta explained. “He is a jack of all trades, but a master of none and the eyes and ears of the leaders appointed over us.”

Copsetta found the training to be challenging, particularly when it came to adapting to different climates and maneuvering in combat situations. “The most challenging part of Scout training is learning to be versatile enough to adapt to remote climates tactically, and to maneuver when the enemy doesn’t want to,” he said.
