On Monday, Jan. 20, Donald Trump was inaugurated as
President of the United States.
In 1937, President Franklin D. Roosevelt became the first president to be
inaugurated on Jan. 20, instead of March 4. Since then presidential inaugurations
have been held on Jan. 20.
Dutch Oven Cook Off
Oakalla Librarian Tricia Pratt announces that it is time to plan
for the annual Dutch Oven cooking event. The date is Saturday, Feb. 8 at 10
a.m., and will be held on the library grounds.
She instructs those wishing to participate to bring charcoal, a Dutch Oven, fixings
and perhaps a chair.
A donation made to the library will allow anyone who wishes to eat, but not cook,
to do so.
Also a drawing will be held for several items, including a skillet.
Commissioner Coversations – Precinct 2 Commissioner Damon Beierle will hold
three more of these sessions and the dates for the next meetings are as follows; Jan.
23, Bertram Library, 4-7 p.m.; Jan. 29, Lake Victor Community Center, 4-
7 p.m.; Jan. 30, Briggs-Northeast Burnet County VFD, 4-7 pm.
Commissioner Beierle says, “These will be casual come and go events so that
constituents can have an open forum to ask me whatever they want so that I can know the
issues that folks want me to know about.”
Oakalla Library News
Toddler Story time is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. every Friday.
On Tuesdays, Story Time and Crafts for the younger group of children will meet
at 4:30 p.m.
The Teen Art classes will be held at 6:30 p.m. also on Tuesdays. They will be
starting a new project—the discovery of great artists. They will study examples of the
works of these artists and also create art projects of their own.
An Adult Art Hour with crafting involved will be introduced on Fridays.
Everyone is invited to attend these sessions from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There is no
charge, but donations are always welcome.
A book club meeting is scheduled for the first Saturday of every month at 11:00
a.m. The books read will be discussed. Afterward, a snack will be enjoyed.
The library is collecting food items that will go the Blessing Box at the Briggs
Baptist Church.

Yoga Classes. Anyone wishing to participate in a Yoga Class can do so at the
Oakalla Community Center. The time is 8 a.m. on Fridays. The classes are sponsored
by the Oakalla Library. To join, bring a mat, a water bottle and a small donation for the
instructor.
