Dawgs powerlifting team earns gold at Llano lift

The Bulldog powerlifting team traveled to Llano last Thursday to participate in their third lift of the season. The boys’ team put together a top effort that earned three individual gold medals, four individual silver medals, and two individual bronze medals.
Brandon Westbrook earned gold in Llano with combined lifts of 1,495 pounds. His 625 pound squat the highest produced at the meet from any platform.

The Bulldog powerlifting team traveled to Llano last Thursday to participate in their third lift of the season. The boys’ team put together a top effort that earned three individual gold medals, four individual silver medals, and two individual bronze medals.

Their combined efforts scored 47 points and had them finishing first place overall for the Llano Invite Championship.

The Lady Dawgs collected two gold medals and a bronze individually and totaled 22 team points earning them a top five finish.

The meet included teams from Burnet, Lampasas, San Saba, Comfort, Llano, Blanco, San Angelo Lake View, Fredericksburg, and Lometa.

On the boys’ side of the platform Adler Goehring, Brandon Westbrook, and Sammy Jones all earned gold.

Goehring competed in the competitive 181 class that featured 10 lifters. He rose above all with a 1,220 total for gold. Goehring squatted 455, benched 310, and pulled 455 in his first outing this season.

Westbrook competed in the 308 and totaled 1,495 on the platform for his gold. Westbrook squatted 625, benched 370, and pulled 500 which earned him the top spot in his classification. His 625 squat was the highest on any platform throughout the meet.

Jones placed first in the SHW division. He totaled 1,230 after a 515 squat, 315 bench, and 400 deadlift.

Each of these lifters earned seven points towards Burnet’s team gold total.

Earning five points each with silver finishes in Llano included Payloe Horner, Tommy Butler, Shane Ikonen, and Johnny Charron.

Horner placed second in the 114 class with a 535 total. He squatted 185, benched 135, and pulled 215 for his medal.

Butler took second in the 123s with a 910 total. Butler squatted 365, the top squat in his class, benched 195, and deadlifted 350.

Ikonen competed on a 10 man platform taking second with a 1,350. He used a 505 squat, 425 bench, and 420 deadlift to achieve his silver finish. His bench was the second highest of the day, only slightly outdone by a lifter on a heavier platform.

Charron placed second in the 308 class with a 1,310. He squatted 465, benched 375, the highest in his class, and pulled 470 for silver.

Johnathan Ryder placed third in the tough 198s. Ryder totaled 1,255 with a 555 squat, 265 bench, and 435 deadlift.
