Bits of Bertram

Bertram Elementary School has recognized Dezerie Skinner as the Teacher of the Year. According to Principal Christine Hoffman, Dezerie “exemplifies excellence in education through her tireless dedication to student growth, her unwavering support for colleagues, and her commitment to high expectations for herself and others.”

She is no stranger to leadership, serving as a mentor to new teachers, a team leader, and an active member of both the Lighthouse Team and Leadership Action Team, where she has significantly influenced both school and district-wide initiatives. Leading the “Choose Your Own Learning” session on campus enables her to equip colleagues with tools and strategies that enhance their teaching practices. She has been of great help to her mentee, team and school by sharing ideas, resources, and encouragement.

In the classroom, Skinner’s students have flourished academically, socially, and emotionally. Her classroom demonstrates growth, not only by a 20% growth in Tier 1 performance on Istation Reading and a 25% growth in Tier 1 performance in Istation Math, but also with the students who were struggling. Those students are now staying in class, on task, and being active participants of not only the classroom, but schoolwide activities as well.

Pancake Fundraiser The First United Methodist Church of Bertram is supporting Meals on Wheels in Burnet County by hosting their annual Pancake Supper Fundraiser. Who doesn’t love pancakes for supper!

This delicious event will be held on Tuesday, March 4 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. If you are in a hurry, you can get your meal to go. If you have time to sit and visit with others, you can eat at the church.

The meal will consist of pancakes, sausage, bacon, fruit, juice and coffee. 100 % of the donations received will go to Meals on Wheels.
