LCRA: once-a-week watering schedule on the table

With no significant rainfall and continued growth, the area’s reservoirs, at just over 51% capacity, have taken a hit in the last few months, officials say. This month, the combined storage of lakes Buchanan and Travis the storage reservoirs for the Highland Lakes — amounted to 1.016 million acre-feet, according to LCRA.

“Because of the ongoing drought, there likely will be no water from the Highland Lakes available this year for interruptible agricultural customers in the Gulf Coast, Lakeside and Pierce Ranch operations in the lower basin,” said LCRA Clara Tuma, in a media release statement. “Stored water from the lakes has not been available to those customers since the first agricultural season in 2022.
