County foots bill for inmate’s surgery

By James Walker
Burnet County Commissioners’ Court members took two contentious votes Tuesday, Sept. 23, and, as is often the case, the county’s jail was at the center of the discussions. Commissioners voted 4-1 to approve the payment of $285,000 for a jail inmate’s recent cancer surgery and also split 3-1 with one abstention on the hiring of Sheriff W. T. Smith’s choice to be the jail’s new head of security.
