Woman taken into custody after waving gun at Burnet HEB

No decision has been made on whether charges will be filed against a woman who brandished a gun Wednesday, Oct. 8 in the parking lot of the Burnet HEB, Burnet Police Chief Paul Nelson said.

The woman, whose name was not released, was waving a gun and putting the firearm in her mouth shortly before 5 p.m., according to a statement released by the City of Burnet.

About 20 minutes after police officers responded to the scene, the woman was taken into custody without incident, Nelson said.

“She had been going through some bad times in her life and she had been drinking and she wasn’t in her right mind,” the police chief said.

Police are considering some charges against the woman, Nelson said.

“If the charges don’t pan out it will be considered just a mental thing,” he said.

Two small semi-automatic pistols were located, one in the woman’s waistband, when she was taken into custody, Nelson said.

The woman was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, he said.
