Playoff memories for Bulldog Basketball

It was another memorable season for Bulldog basketball and also a season that many will look back on with a smile. The 2015-16 boys accomplished a lot of great things and, although it came to a premature end in the area round of the playoffs, it was a fun ride full of memories.

Coach Roy Kiser had this to say following Friday’s game, “I couldn’t be more proud of how our players represented the spirit, pride, and honor of Burnet High School throughout this season. It was often that someone from the opposing team would compliment our teams unselfishness or style of play. It was a fun season filled with life lessons, from the success and even from last night’s disappointment. Thank you to Coach Dixon, Coach Reeves, our administration, and the unbelievable support of this group of parents.”

The Bulldogs’ first post season opponent was Navarro and the teams met-up at Smithson Valley High school.

Drew Kiser and Jesse Pollard led the way to a 21-13 first quarter with help from Caelin Graves, Tyler Ford, Luke Pemberton, Darius Johnson, and Kyle Cavender.

Thanks to treys by Ryan Robertson and Cavender, as well as the hot hands of Johnson Burnet increased their lead to 39-22 at the break.

Navarro won the final quarters, 12-10, 19-14, but it was too little too late as the Bulldogs advanced to the Area round with a 63-53 victory.

Leading scorers included Kiser, 14; Johnson, 12; Pollard, 10; Graves, eight; Pemberton, seven; Robertson, five; Cavender, five; and Ford, two. Pollard was perfect from the charity stripe.

The Area round had Burnet facing a very athletic Wharton Tigers team, but the Dawgs were game. A slow start had Burnet down 16-10 after one and 36-29 at the break.
