Rain dampens Dawgs
by Wayne Craig
A soggy week left many craving the sunshine and numerous Bulldog activities either very wet or canceled altogether.
The Lady Dawg softball teams risked the weather on Tuesday night and traveled to Elgin to face the Wildcats. The varsity and JV games were swapped under the threat of rain but both teams had an opportunity to take to the diamond. Unfortunately both teams found the Lady Wildcats to be formidable opponents with Burnet’s varsity dropping only their second game of the year, 2-0; and the JV coming up short, 4-2 in a three inning game.
The JV team was scheduled to host the Burnet JV tournament on Thursday and Saturday but the relentless rain poured down and washed the tournament out. Burnet’s softball teams will open district play this Friday, March 18 hosting Lampasas. The JV will play at 5:00 p.m. followed by the varsity at 7:00 p.m.
The Bulldog baseball team hosted the Canyon Lake Hawks last Tuesday night and Burnet earned a big win, 10-4. The Dawgs scored 10 runs off nine hits including a triple by Peyton Utsey and doubles by Hunter Reagor, Koby Edwards, and Steven Gallardo.
The Dawgs hosted Wimberley on Tuesday and will play at Hyde Park on Friday. District play starts for them on Tuesday, March 22 when they host Llano.
