Playoff time for the Bulldogs

BY WAYNE CRAIG/BURNET BULLETIN

The varsity Bulldog baseball team finished out regular season play with a 6-2 win over the visiting Lampasas Badgers last Tuesday night. That victory brought Burnet’s overall record to 11-11, 5-5 in district 25-4A play, which had them in a third place tie with Liberty Hill, also at 5-5.

Salado and Taylor led the way in the district both finishing with 9-1 records. Llano and Lampasas each missed the playoffs finishing 1-9.

Tuesday night’s game remained scoreless through two and a half innings of play. Tyler Ford scored the Bulldog’s first run on a Rowdy Holmes RBI.

After holding the Badgers scoreless again in the top of the fourth Burnet really went to work.

Following a Colton Barksdale single Koby Edwards stepped to the plate hitting a RBI double that plated Barksdale. Steven Gallardo reached base on a Badger error and Edwards crossed home on that play for another Bulldog run.

Before the inning was done Reid Dalrymple swatted a double that scored Gallardo and Ford putting Burnet up 5-0 after four.

Burnet put one more run on the board in the bottom of the fifth. It came by way of an Edwards sacrifice that scored Hunter Reagor.

Lampasas scored two runs in the top of the sixth, but that was all they had in the tank and the Dawgs claimed the victory, 6-2.

Doubles were tallied by Dalrymple and Edwards.

Singles were hit by Dalrymple, Barksdale, Dylan King, and Trent Rockafellow.

Barksdale pitched five innings for Burnet allowing only one hit, no runs and one walk with three strikeouts.

Carter Faris got in one inning allowing three hits and two runs.

Rockafellow also pitched one inning with no hits, no runs, and no walks while recording two strikeouts.

On Friday the Dawgs and the Panthers met-up once again to decide which road each team would take in the playoffs. The third place team in the district gets the second place team out of 26-4A, while the fourth place team gets the district champ from 26-4A.

The Panthers won the Friday night seeding game giving them third and Burnet fourth in 25-4A.

The Dawgs only scored one run in the 12-1 ballgame. King hit a double in the third and later scored on a Panther error.

Burnet tallied three hits total, a double and a single by King as well as a single by Holmes.

The Bulldogs took a look at five pitchers with Reagor and Rockafellow getting the lions share of the duties on the mound. Playoff will begin this week for Burnet.
