Veronica Lee plans to build the Burnet volleyball program into a consistent squad of hitters that aren’t afraid to make the game-clinching play.

Lee has been hired as the volleyball coach for the Bulldogs after spending the last three years coaching her daughter at the Brentwood Christian School in Austin.

Lee said she is ready to take Burnet to the next level in volleyball after working with some exceptional talent at Brentwood Christian.

Brentwood Christian had four girls that earned Division I scholarships last year, including her daughter Jaimeson Lee.

Jaimeson, a 5-foot-10 setter, earned a scholarship with George Washington University. Brentwood Christian won the 2015 TAPPS Class 3A state championship with the Lee’s playing a big role.

Lee said she concentrated on developing the team chemistry with some standout talent and it paid off. Brentwood made the state tournament in all three years with Lee coaching. In the final two years, she carried Brentwood Christian to a state runnerup finish and then the title last year.

“One of the things I’m real proud of is the girl that had the winning hit wasn’t one of the big four for us,’’ Lee said. “She wasn’t one of the players that had played so much club volleyball.’’

Lee said she hopes to mold this year’s Burnet team into one that will battle for the district title and advance deep into the UIL Class 4A state playoffs.

“I’ve watched some of them work out and there is talent here,’’ Lee said. “We want to get farther in the playoffs. We want to get everybody on the same page. We want everybody scoring points.’’

Burnet will compete against Liberty Hill, Taylor, Salado, Llano, Lampasas and Leander Glenn in volleyball.

Liberty Hill will be the big challenge once again as Burnet’s biggest district rival.

Lee is a graduate of Johnston High School in Austin and played collegiate volleyball at Long Beach State in California.

In 1998 she was a member of the only unbeaten NCAA Division I national championship team. They were 36-0 beating Penn State in the final. Both teams went into that game undefeated.

Prior to coaching at Brentwood Christian, Lee coached in the club ranks in Austin.

Her husband Carmelo Lee played basketball at Long Beach State where they met as undergraduates.
