The JV and freshman Bulldogs opened their 2016 football season on Thursday with games in Austin against Reagan. No extended stats were available for the freshman game but it was known that Burnet shutdown and shutout their opponent, 24-0.

In the JV game Austin Reagan scored in the first quarter on an 11-yard run. They took an 8-0 lead after successfully cashing in a two-point conversion.

Burnet answered in the second quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run by Ryan Jackson, but the conversion failed leaving the Dawgs trailing, 8-6.

The second half produced no scoring by either team. A late Burnet drive had team green moving quickly down the field but a questionable penalty put them in a big hole and they were unable to score. The game ended in Reagan’s favor, 8-6.

Despite the outcome it was a well fought battle by the JV. Many expect good things from this team moving into the season.

The offense was led by the running of Jackson and Zach Ferguson behind the blocking of Jalen Huggins, Zach Hudgins, Jacob Bernal, Andrew Hawkins, and Luke Aguillon.

Wyatt Young and Bryson Schubert did a nice job passing the ball to receivers Cooper Cook and Ferguson.

The defense was led by Ferguson, Dylan Wilson, Gerardo Murillo, Roger Craig, and Michael Rodriguez.

Murillo recovered a fumble and Brandon Anderson blocked a punt.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to play three sub-varsity games on Thursday all in Marble Falls. The freshman B game will start at 4:00 p.m. followed by the freshman A at 5:30 p.m.. The JV is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

The freshman and JV will play their first games at Bulldog stadium on Sept. 8 when they host Fredericksburg, same start times as listed above.
