PEC Solar Tour coming Oct. 1

The Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) will partner with the Texas Solar Energy Society to host the sixth annual Hill Country Solar Tour on Saturday, Oct. 1.

This year’s solar tour will feature homes in the Oak Hill area of PEC’s service territory in Southwest

Austin from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Based out of PEC's Oak Hill office, 9115 Circle Drive, in Austin, the event will highlight the growing region.

“We’re seeing increased interest in renewable energy and interconnections throughout the PEC

service territory,” said Blake Beavers, PEC’s renewable and distributed energy manager. “More than

1,000 members have already made the move to generate their own clean power.”

In addition to the self-guided tour of four local homes utilizing solar power and other renewable

technologies, the event will offer members and guests the opportunity to visit with local solar experts

during an on-site solar installer fair at the Oak Hill office. More than 10 installers will be on hand from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. to answer questions

A “solar 101 workshop,” 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. will inform adults and teens about the intricate parts of a solar photovoltaic system and how it’s installed.

“The installer fair gives members the chance to ask questions, get cost estimates and schedule site

surveys in a friendly environment,” Beavers said. “Members can then talk to PEC staff for more

information on how interconnection with our system works.”

The Hill Country Solar Tour is a rain-or-shine, family-friendly event with refreshments, the solar

101 presentation for teens and adults and a workshop with solar car kits for kids age 9-12 from 10 a.m.-noon.
