Cafe 2300 celebrates 20 years

Cafe 2300 will celebrate their 20th anniversary with a Burnet Chamber open house today Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 5-7 p.m.

Café Twenty-Three Hundred made its start as an offshoot of Christmas Café from the Hill Country Christmas Gift Shop located in the old Burnet Hotel on the downtown Burnet Square.   The Café was opened in 2004 and operated until 2009 when the structure was sold and eventually demolished.

The old hotel was sold in 2009 at which time Tom and Peggy Hansen purchased the location on West Highway 29.

The address on highway 29 is 2300 from whence the Café Twenty-Three Hundred name was established.

After purchasing the new location in 2009, Tom Hansen spent three years renovating the old antiquated structure that has been on the site for about 50 years.

During the renovations on the 2300 location Tom and Peggy said it was virtually impossible to go anywhere locally without running into a previous customer.

“When are you going to open the restaurant back up, they would always ask us,” said Tom.

“As a matter of fact the day we decided to open, we only did a soft opening and turned the OPEN sign on and we had almost 50 meals  served on day one and over 100 on day two,”

Café Twenty-Three Hundred offers myriad special meal deals throughout the week and only closed on Sunday and Monday.

Tuesday is steak night offering a Rib Eye Steak, Dinner Salad and loaded Baked Potato with a fresh baked yeast roll.

Each week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, Tom personally prepares his weekly, Tom’s Special.

“It’s always very popular with the diners and each week is different,” said Tom.

“It is never anything that’s already on the menu, it may be Sautéed Shrimp, Meatloaf, Pork Roast, King Ranch Chicken Casserole or any one of my 20+ other specialties,”

Friday Night offers All-You-Can-Eat Fried Catfish with all the fixings including Tom’s Homemade Cole Slaw.

Live music is featured each Friday and Saturday night from 6-8 p.m.

Thanks to our many faithful customers and new one’s too, we have continued to increase and serve our hungry community,” said Tom.

“Our Open House/Chamber of Commerce Mixer will offer complimentary appetizers, a cold cut meat tray and cheese platter,” said Tom.

“Complimentary Beer, Wine and assorted non-alcoholic beverages will be offered,”

“Also, since this is a regular evening for business by the Café, all Mixer attendees are welcome to stay following the Open House and enjoy the Home Cooked goodness of the many delectable offerings from the evening menu.,” said Tom.

Cafe 2300 is located at 2300 Texas Highway 29 in Burnet and for more information about the mixer or the restaurant call 512-756-0550.
