Mixed week for sub-varsity Dawgs

The sub-varsity Bulldogs faced challenges against Taylor on Tuesday at home and Salado on the road Friday. The freshman team was unable to pull-out a win dropping the Taylor game, 55-25; and Salado, 50-34. The JV boys were able to add two wins last week defeating Taylor, 59-36; and Salado, 47-24. Freshman The freshman Bulldogs fell behind to Taylor 29-14 at the half and could not recover losing the game, 55-25. Burnet was led in scoring by Kaleb Alexander with 11 points. He was followed by Hayden Clough, four; Bradyn McPherson, two; Miguel Jiminez, two; Dylan Johnson, two; Liam Franco, two; and Garrett Johnson, two. On Friday the boys faced Salado and again a slow first half left them trailing 30-14 at the break and the game eventually ended with the Eagles on top, 50-34. Alexander was the leading scorer with 16, followed by G. Johnson 12; Franco, four; and McPherson, two. Junior Varsity The junior varsity basketball team had a great week adding two-straight wins. Burnet defeated Taylor at home on Tuesday, 59-36. Burnet had the lead at the end of each quarter including a fast start first where the Dawgs outscored the Ducks 18-2. Leading scorers against Taylor included Schubert, 15; O’Neal, 10; Stewart, eight; Grady, four; Barrow, four; Johnson, four; Kelly, three; Roy, three; Giesenschlag, two; Keele, two; Burton, two; and Cook, two. At the end of the third quarter against Salado on Friday it was a pretty close game with the Dawgs leading 30-24. Burnet busted things wide-open in the fourth scoring 17 points while holding their opponent to zero for the 47-24 win. Leading scorers included Grady, 13; Schubert, 12; Stewart, nine; Giesenschlag, five; Barrow, two; O’Neal, two; Kelly, two; and Keele, two. The Bulldogs hosted Llano on Tuesday and will travel to Lampasas this Friday.
