Elva Rue Ellis Barbery
Elva Rue Ellis Barbery, 94, of Oklahoma City passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Elva was born on June 21, 1922, in Lometa to Euel and Viva (Minton) Ellis. She graduated from Burnet High School in 1940 and from Cameron College (Lawton, OK) in 1963. Elva enjoyed a long career caring for others as a nurse and nurse administrator in the Lawton and Oklahoma City areas. She met each day confidently in her signature red lipstick, and loved gardening, golf, big parties, and OU football. Elva was preceded in death by former husband; William Barbery; brother Jack "CJ" Ellis; sisters Elma Lee Brister and Earnestine Price, and granddaughter Lee Ann "Lolly" Fletcher. Elva is survived by her daughter; Delores Howard of Hewitt; son Bill Barbery of Edmond, Oklahoma; nieces Mary Adams of Burnet and Brenda Werry of Crosby, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren that she loved to brag about. The family said goodbye at a private service on Saturday Feb. 4 at the Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, Oklahoma. In honor of Elva, wear something red, put on some Sinatra, and raise a glass to toast the life and service of a woman who was truly one of a kind, dearly loved, and will be missed every day.
