By Wayne Craig Bulletin Sports It was an emotional night for several in attendance of Tuesday night’s Lady Bulldog game in Burnet. It was the Lady Dawgs final home game of 2017, final district game, parent’s night and the final night for Burnet’s four seniors to take to the court at Bulldog Gym. Parent’s and seniors were honored before tip-off and after several fought back tears the game was on. Emma Lewis put the scoreboard to work first, as she has done so many times this year, with a quick three. Marissa Escamilla, Kiley Burton, and Izzy Ramon also all added some early bucket but the Lady Grizzlies of Leander kept early pace, 10-7. Lewis opened it up a bit at that point with another trey. Trynadee Greenwell and Escamilla added some late free-throws and after eight-minutes of play Burnet had built a 22-12 lead. The Lady Dawgs had a 10-point lead after the first half, 31-21 but quickly put the game out-of-reach in the third. Lewis hit her third three-pointer of the game early in the third. Escamilla scored 10 in the period, while Ramon chipped in four. The Lady Grizzlies as a team only posted two buckets and just like that Burnet led by 25, 50-25. Burnet slowed their scoring in the third only adding nine more to their total and the final was, 59-32. Escamilla was Burnet’s top scorer with 25. She was followed by Lewis, 12; Reagan Giesenschlag, six; Greenwell, five; Ramon, five; Burton, two; and Dream Romero, two. Also contributing to the win was Jayci Craig, Kathleen Fipps, Lyndsi Woods, and Caitlynne Graves. Under the first year direction of head coach David Schubert the Lady Dawgs finished regular season play with an overall record of 20-11, 9-3 in district. They began their playoff journey on Tuesday in Pflugerville with a bi-district match against La Grange. Pick-up next week’s Burnet Bulletin for complete coverage of the UIL State playoffs.
